Pappu Yadav not missing: Delhi police

The Delhi police on Tuesday said independent Bihar MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav was very much in Delhi and not missing from judicial custody as alleged by the Bihar police even as it sent a report to the Delhi government and the Centre on the issue.

"I think he is very much in Delhi. There is no reason to believe that he is absconding," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) P Kamraj told PTI.

Sources at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where Yadav is undergoing treatment, confirmed that he was undergoing treatment at the hospital though he was in the habit of leaving the premises without informing the authorities.

In its FIR lodged with the Delhi police, the Bihar police had alleged that three law makers - Yadav and MLAs Suraj Bhan and Rajan Tewari - had 'disappeared' from judicial custody while undergoing treatment in hospitals in the capital.

Some policemen entrusted with the duty of guarding the trio have been suspended.

Refuting the Bihar police's charges, Yadav had on Monday claimed that he was not in custody as he had obtained provisional bail from a Patna court to attend his sister's marriage on November 24.

Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police Satish Chandra said the police have sent a report on the issue to the Delhi government with a copy to the Centre.
