Parliament attack case: Defence lawyer points out 'loopholes'

Basharat Peer in New Delhi

The defence lawyer for the main accused in the Parliament attack case, Afzal Guru and Showket Guru, on Thursday pointed out the 'loopholes and exaggerations' in the charge sheet during the trial held in a Delhi special court.

The prosecution claims that Showket and Afzal are members of the banned terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, and terms them as conspirators in the attack. Defence lawyer Kannabiram, however, contends this.

"There is no evidence connecting the two to Jaish-e-Mohammed. If they were a part of this network then there would have been some evidence of their previous association and whatever evidence the police has presented is doubtful," he said.

He was also critical of the procedures followed by the police during seizures and arrests made in the case.
