US treasury secretary to visit India

United States Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill will soon embark on a ten-day trip to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. The trip, scheduled to start next week, will include a series of 20 meetings in New Delhi.

O'Neill will attend the G-20 session in New Delhi on November 22-23 to focus on initiatives to ease debt restructuring by emerging market countries that have become insolvent.

He will also look at measures to cut off finance to terrorists, US treasury department spokesperson Michele Davis said on Tuesday.

His Afghanistan trip is aimed at reconstructing the war-torn economy, distributing international aid, and making efforts to fund anti-terrorism outfits, Davis said.

En route to the G-20, he is scheduled to make a stop in Pakistan. On his way back to Washington, O'Neill will make a halt in Manchester, England, on November 25.
