Nagappa's family meets Vajpayee

Sadananda R and Agencies in Chamarajanagar

Family members of H Nagappa met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and sought his intervention for the release of the former Karnataka minister from the clutches of forest brigand Veerappan.

Nagappa's son Preetam Nagappa and son-in-law Kiran Patel said the prime minister had assured them that he would talk to chief ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on the matter.

Meanwhile, the opposition parties of Karnataka staged a daylong dharna in Bangalore in front of the Vidhana Soudha [the state secretariat] to condemn the government's inability to solve the issue of Nagappa's abduction

The dharna, called by the Bhartiya Janata Party, was attended by all other opposition parties.

Nagappa's life is not less precious than that of Rajakumar. The leaders appealed to the central government to interfere and solve this case.

They requested Advani to organise meeting of the chief ministers of the two states. Lack of coordination between these two chief ministers is responsible for the delay, the leaders said.

Meanwhile, the lingayat seers have decided to organise a meet in Bangalore on 20 November to express their anger over Krishna's failure to solve the abduction crisis and to demand immediate action.

Nagappa belongs to Lingayat community.

Lingayats, who are a major force politically in state, have pointed fingers at Krishna, Vokkaliga, for failing to resolve the abduction issue.
