Security personnel suspended for lapses in Laloo's security

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

An assistant sub-inspector and a sub-inspector were among the seven security personnel, who were deployed at the Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi's residence, suspended on Monday for alleged dereliction of duty.

The suspension comes after an intrusion by one Arvind Kumar into the bedroom of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Laloo Prasad Yadav, husband of Rabri Devi, on Friday night.

Police carried out a raid at the residence of Arvind Kumar Kundan at Rajendra Nagar and arrested him for allegedly trespassing into the prohibited area.

Arvind, 50, had sneaked into Devi's official residence late on Friday night and entered her husband and former chief minister Yadav's bedroom. He said was drunk that night and had no intention to harm the former chief minister or his family.

Laloo was shocked to find the man in his room in the dead of the night, an aide said. "He was not able to sleep after the incident. He was deeply disturbed by the lapse in his personal security."
