Toll rises to nine in Jaguar crash

Three more persons, including two girls, have succumbed to injuries taking the toll in Tuesday's Jaguar crash in a residential area in Ambala to nine.

Reshma, who was shifted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh on Wednesday night, succumbed to burns on Thursday, PGIMER sources said.

Another girl, Shivani (5), died in PGIMER while Jeetender succumbed to burns in the Military Hospital in Chandigarh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate M K Ahuja said.

Six persons are under treatment in PGIMER, three in Government Medical College Hospital, Chandigarh, and four in the Military Hospital.

Meanwhile, Air Marshal R C Mahadik, who visited the crash site along with officers of the Ambala IAF station, said temporary boarding arrangements will be provided for the families whose houses were destroyed.

The defence ministry will grant Rs 50,000 to those whose houses were completely damaged; adults who were hurt will get Rs 8,000 and children will get half of that, he said.

A court of inquiry has started working and within fifteen days a report will be submitted detailing the cause of the crash, he said.

Replying to a question, he said Jaguars and other aircraft in the IAF fleet were 'fully reliable'.
