Trains collide near Chhapra, 3 killed

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

At least three persons were killed and 24 injured when two trains collided near Chhapra in Bihar on Tuesday morning.

Railway officials said the Gwalior-Barauni Express collided with a stationary Janseva Express between Kopa and Tekaniwas railway stations near Chapra, about 75 km from Patna.

The injured have been admitted to the government-run Chapra district hospital. Divisional Inspector General of Railways S K Singh said at least six of them are in a critical condition.

A relief train from Sonepur has left for the site.

Sources said the Janseva Express was idling between Kopa and Tekaniwas railway stations following a vacuum problem when the Gawalior-Barauni Express rammed into it.

Two bogies of the Janseva Express derailed following the impact.
