BJP terms Mufti's decisions dangerous

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Bharatiya Janata Party president M Venkaiah Naidu has described as 'dangerous' some early decisions of the Congress-People's Democratic Party coalition government of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on the terrorism front.

Talking to reporters in Chennai, Naidu said, "The decision of the coalition government to withdraw POTA use in the state, dismantle the Special Operations Group of the state police, and free all political prisoners is dangerous."

The BJP leader said, "These decisions could revive terrorism in the border state and threaten national security."

Naidu's observation came just days after Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani promised all help to the state government in fighting terrorism, and the Mufti urged the Centre to 'travel a further mile' to restore peace and normalcy in Jammu & Kashmir.

Obviously, the Vajpayee leadership has for now drawn a line between the Centre as an institution and the BJP as a party, with both reacting differently to the same situation.
