5 killed as IAF Jaguar crashes in Ambala

A Jaguar fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in a residential area in Ambala Cantonment on Tuesday killing five people and damaging several houses.

The pilot bailed out safely.

The casualties on the ground are likely to go up as a number of people are feared trapped inside two damaged houses, official sources said.

The aircraft caught fire minutes after taking off from the Air Force station in Ambala and crashed at 3.20 pm, they said.

An IAF spokesman said rescue teams have rushed to the site of the crash.

The crash is the fifth such mishap in Haryana and Punjab in past seven months.

On May 9, a Jaguar had crashed into the fence of air base in Ambala killing its pilot.
