A four-member team of the Andhra Pradesh police, led by Director General Pervaram Ramulu, will leave for Israel on June 4 to witness an exhibition on "modern weaponry to counter terrorist and subversive activities".
The other members of the team are Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) A Siva Shankar, IGP (Computer Services) S V Ramana Murthy and IGP (Anti-Naxalite Elite Force Greyhounds) Anurag Sharma.
The exhibition is being organised in Tel Aviv from June 3 to 10. It will display the modern weapons used by Israel to counter terrorist activities. Group discussions will be held on various aspects of insurgency and the methods being adopted to counter terrorism. There will also be an exchange of views on the strategies for tackling subversive activities.
Andhra Pradesh is likely to order some weapons from Israel and depute the officials engaged in anti-extremist activities to Tel Aviv for training.
The visit is significant, as the state government has expressed a willingness to hold direct talks with the outlawed People's War Group to find a lasting solution to the vexatious issue that has been plaguing the state for the last 34 years.
