General Padamanabhan, who was received by Nepal's army chief Prajwallah Sumshere Rana, will hold two rounds of talks with him on measures to curb extremism and fundamentalist activities on the Indo-Nepal border.
Earlier this year, India had presented two helicopters to Nepal to help its army in its fight against the Maoists.
In the course of his trip, Padamanabhan will call on acting prime minister of Nepal Chirinjivi Wagle besides holding discussions with senior Royal Nepalese Army officers.
The army chief will also meet Indian Army ex-servicemen living in Nepal, according to an Indian embassy press release.
