Ritu was depressed due to Natasha's death: Friends

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

A panel of three doctors of Safdarjung Hospital started conducting post-mortem on the body of Ritu Singh on Friday. The report is expected to be out by the evening.

Ritu, daughter of senior Congress leader and former external affairs minister Natwar Singh, was found hanging in her father's residence in Vasant Vihar on Thursday evening.

Her death came less than two months after the alleged suicide of her sister-in-law Natasha. According to her friends, Ritu was depressed because she had introduced Natasha to her brother Jagat.

The 31-year-old fashion designer was in New Delhi to be with her parents for a few days and was expected to return to London sometimes next week.

Ishwar Singh Dahiya, Station House Officer of Vasant Vihar police station, said at Safdarjung Hospital that the police had registered a case of unnatural death.

"Right now the post-mortem is being done by three doctors of the Safdarjung Hospital. We would get its report by the evening. Beyond this I am not in a position to say anything as we are still investigating the case," he said.

So far the family has taken no decision on cremation.
