Eleven Indians held in Philippines for illegal entry

Eleven people with Indian passports were held on Wednesday for illegally trying to enter Philippines, officials said on Thursday.

They were on a fishing boat that was boarded by Filipino authorities in Sarangani Bay in southern Philippines.

The coastguard was tipped off that a batch of Indians was sailing to the port city of General Santos aboard a hired vessel that set off from the Indonesian port of Manado, Commodore George Ursabia, the local coastguard chief, was quoted as saying.

Each of the suspected illegal entrants allegedly paid at least $4,000 to get on the vessel.
