Three persons were killed and 3O others injured when police opened fire to quell a violent mob that set ablaze a police post in Bhadnora village in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, official sources said.
The mob, which was protesting the arrest of three persons in a kidnapping case, looted two firearms, cartridges and a wireless set before setting the outpost on fire, they added.
The mob also fired upon some police personnel, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Tilak Kak said in Lucknow.
Additional Superintendent of Police Tehsildar Singh told reporters that the situation is now under control.
