Lakshya successfully test-flown

The indigenously developed pilotless target aircraft, Lakshya, was successfully test-flown on Thursday morning from the Interim Test Range at Chandipur-on-Sea, about 15 km from Balasore, for the second time in three days.

Official sources said with Thursday's trial, the test had come to a close.

Lakshya was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2000. But the latest trial was undertaken with an improved engine, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation.

Senior IAF officers and DRDO scientists witnessed the test.

Lakshya, a sub-sonic reusable aerial target system, is remote-controlled from the ground and designed to impart training to both airborne and air-defence pilots for weapon engagement.
