Another massacre in Bihar, 6 dalits killed

The outlawed People's War Group killed six dalits in Patna district of Bihar on Tuesday night.

PWG cadres of the Jaynandan Yadav faction sprayed bullets at Bhadaura village killing the six dalits, including two women and two children, Additional Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha said.

Despite Jaynandan's death in an encounter with the police last year, his gang is still operating in Patna and Jehanabad districts.

The bodies were taken to the Patna Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem and an additional company of the Bihar Military Police was rushed to the village, which falls under Masaurhi police station area.

An old enmity was said to be the reason behind the massacre. A combing operation was underway to nab the killers.

Senior police officials, including Inspector General of Police (Operation) Neelmani, were camping at the site of the attack.

The incident came less than 48 hours after the killing of six Rajasthani dalit labourers, working on the modernisation of the Sone Canal at Diliya village in the same district.

On May 1, the Badku Mia gang killed four dalits for refusing to serve liquor to the gang leader's father at Puraina village in Gopalganj district.

Opposition parties have taken exception to the killings and sought the resignation of the Rashtriya Janata Dal government.

"The state administration has virtually collapsed and criminals are ruling the roost... If a government cannot protect the lives and property of the people, it has no moral right to continue in office," Bharatiya Janata Party state spokesperson Kiran Ghai said.
