Barring stray incidents of violence, elections to eight Bihar Legislative Council seats from the teachers and graduates constituencies passed off peacefully on Thursday with a 60 to 65 per cent voter turn out, official sources said.

Altogether 114 contestants were in the fray for the eight council seats.

Prominent among them are: Chandrama Singh and Nilamber Choudhury (both Congress), Diwakar Prasad Singh (RJD), D N Sinha (Lok Jan Shakti Party) and Anil Kumar (Samata Party).

The counting will be held on May five.

Inspector General of Police (operations) Neelmani said the supporters of two rival candidates clashed at B N College polling booth in Patna and exchanged fire and hurled bombs.

However, no one was injured in the clash.

Samata Party MLA Sunil Pande, released on bail, was taken into preventive custody as his movement might have created law and order problem, he said.

Pande was released after the completion of the poll, he added.

Over 130 people were taken into custody for disturbing the poll process in Patna, Tirhut, Darbhanga and Saran, he said.
