Inmates take control of Chhapra jail
in Bihar

Nearly 1200 prisoners have taken control of the Chhapra divisional jail in Bihar, police said on Friday.

They have forced the employees of the jail to move out, Superintendent of Police Kundan Krishna said.

Security personnel have been deployed outside the jail to prevent jailbreak, but a couple of prisoners may have escaped, he said.

"We are, at this stage, not in a position to speculate about the number of inmates who have escaped from the jail. That will be possible only after a headcount of prisoners," he said.

The district administration has taken all preventive steps and the situation is "likely to be fully controlled" soon, Krishna added.
