Congress secures thumping majority in Delhi civic body

Inflicting yet another crushing electoral defeat on the BJP, the Congress on Wednesday wrested the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) with a landslide three-fourths majority in the 134-member house.

The Congress bagged 107 of the 133 seats declared till late on Wednesday night. The elections were held on March 24.

The BJP slipped badly to bag only 16 wards.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won the Gokulpur seat while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Janata Dal (Secular) secured two seats each.

Independents won in five wards and the result of one seat is still awaited.
