3 Indians among 13 killed in Dubai dry docks accident

Thirteen persons, including three Indians, were killed, 23 were injured and an equal number of workers were missing when a dry dock in Dubai was flooded. However, several more Indians were feared dead.

The accident happened when the panels of the dry dock collapsed causing sea water to gush in tossing the vessels and sweeping workers away.

"There were about a 100 people at the site at the time of the accident, most of them Asians," a dock employee said.

The Indian consulate in Dubai was unable to get the exact number of Indian nationals working at the site at the time of the incident, or of those killed.

"We could confirm only one death, that of Alex Samuel," said a consulate official.

The Gulf Daily said two others from Kerala - Sunil and Vishwanathan - also died.

The daily, quoting police, said there was no hope of survival for any of those missing.
