Pakistan Air Force inducts Chinese jets

The Pakistan Air Force on Wednesday phased out its 36-year-old F-6 aircraft and inducted a fleet of F-7PG jets.

Over 20 F-7PG aircraft supplied by China during the past three months were commissioned at a ceremony in Quetta.

Under an agreement between the two countries, Pakistan will receive 46 F-7PG planes.

A large number of serving and retired PAF pilots who flew the age-old US-made F-6 aircraft took part in the ceremony. Besides the new squadron, Pakistan at present has American F-16 and the French Mirage A-5 and F-7s.

Commissioning the aircraft, PAF chief Air Marshal Mushar Ali Mir said: "Pakistan Air Force has always been a prime beneficiary of Pak-China friendship that has firmly withstood the test of time."

"We owe a debt of abiding gratitude to the government of the People's Republic of China for keeping Pakistan Air Force flying fit in difficult times," the official APP news agency quoted him as saying.
