Minister denies calling sex chat numbers

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Satyabrat Mukherjee on Wednesday denied making calls to any sex chat number from his official phones.

"This is a totally false and fabricated charge. My reputation has been severely damaged by the allegation. I will find out the truth," he asserted.

However, he admitted that the calls could have been made from his official phones without his knowledge. "The calls were made when I was out of Delhi," he added.

"I have asked the secretary in the ministry to inquire into the allegations," Mukherjee told rediff.com.

He regretted that Dasgupta did not talk to him before making his letter to the prime minister public.

"I did not cross check my phone bills as I did not suspect anything amiss. Maybe, I should have," he admitted.

However, CPI-M Rajya Sabha member Biplab Dasgupta, who made the allegation, said he would not accept the findings of any probe ordered by the minister.

"Only the prime minister or some higher ranking minister can order a probe," Dasgupta said.
