Threats to TADA judge figures in Maharashtra assembly

The issue of threatening letters received by Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act Judge P D Kode, conducting the serial blast trial, had its echo in the Maharashtra assembly on Tuesday.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Shiv Sena MLA Vinayak Raut wanted to know what action the government had taken on the issue.

Kode had received anonymous letters asking him to adopt a 'lenient' approach towards those accused in the serial blasts case. The letter warned the judge of dire consequences if he failed to adhere to the 'suggestion'.

Leader of the opposition Narayan Rane said Kode had been periodically receiving threats to his life.

"Who are these persons threatening Kode and what action has been taken against them?" Rane asked.

Rane said the judge should be provided with Z plus security cover.

Minister of State for Home Kripashankar Singh said adequate security had been provided to Kode and the police was investigating the matter.
