Nepalese security forces have killed at least 20 Maoist rebels in the past two days, a defence ministry spokesman said on Saturday.
He said that the guerrillas were killed after they clashed with security forces in seven different districts in the Himalayan kingdom.
The army also recovered hand grenades, guns, ammunition and detonators from the rebels, it said.
The rebels have been fighting for a communist republic in Nepal since 1996 and the uprising has so far claimed more than 2,700 lives.
In November the government declared a state of emergency and deployed the army for the first time against the Maoists after they broke a fourth ceasefire and pulled out of peace talks.
