Indo-US engagement reaches a new high: Mansingh

T V Parasuram Washington

Indo-US relations have entered a more productive phase of engagement in the last one year, and the intensity has only increased after the tragic events of September 11, Indian ambassador to the US, Lalit Mansingh, has said.

He said that US President George W Bush and Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee have already laid the ground.

Addressing the US-India Trade and Technology Conference in Washington on Friday, Mansingh also noted that the Indian American community has indeed come of age.

It has been a valuable business and political asset and a catalyst for Indo-US relations, he said.

Mansingh said that there was no dearth of new avenues in which US and India can cooperate for mutual benefit.

India has to its credit very substantial accomplishments in science and technology, including biotechnology and in the peaceful exploration of space, he said.
