NHRC inspects 'S6' bogie of Sabarmati Express

National Human Rights Commission chairman J S Verma, along with senior officers, on Friday visited the Godhra railway station to study the 'S6' bogie of the Sabarmati Express, which was set afire by a mob on February 27.

The commission held in-camera meetings with railway officials about the incident in which 58 passengers were burnt to death.

Verma said he would submit his reports only after collecting information about the Godhra carnage and the subsequent communal violence that followed in Gujarat.

He stressed the need for communal harmony and joint efforts to restore normalcy as early as possible.

The NHRC chief said it was the responsibility of the government and the administration to provide security to citizens.
