Bihar BJP leader's son, servant shot dead

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

Siwan district Bharatiya Janata Party chief Ramakant Pathak's son and servant were shot dead in Bihar on Sunday evening, police said on Monday.

Around 1900 hrs, a group of four people stormed into Pathak's house in Andar Dhala, Siwan, dragged 18-year-old Sonu and his servant Ashok Kumar out and sprayed bullets on them, the police said.

The killings took place because Pathak had approached the judiciary to protest against the unopposed election of 16 candidates in the Siwan municipality polls, local BJP leaders said. The criminals were looking for Pathak, but unfortunately found his son and servant, they said.

Siwan is the stronghold of Mohammed Shahabuddin, an alleged criminal who came to the Lok Sabha on a Rashtriya Janata Dal ticket.

State BJP vice-president Kiran Ghai told rediff.com that only Shahabuddin was capable of engineering such things in Siwan.

State BJP president Nand Kishore Yadav, while severely criticising the state government for its failure uphold law and order, demanded the arrest of the culprits.
