Rain related toll mounts
to 55 in Gujarat

With heavy rains continuing to lash parts of Gujarat, the toll in rain-related deaths in the state has mounted to 55.

Four persons were killed when a wall collapsed following heavy rains at Una in Junagadh district on Friday, police said.

In another incident, a couple riding a bullock cart was swept away by floods in Jetpur town of Rajkot district.

Around 11,000 people have been shifted to safer places in Bhavnagar district alone.

All 59 gates of Setrunji dam in Bhavnagar district's Palitana taluka have been opened.

There is a forecast of heavy rains all over Gujarat in the next 24 hours.

The water level in various reservoirs of south Gujarat region including, Ukai dam and Kakrapa in Surat district, has increased since Friday morning following heavy rain in the catchment areas of Tapti river, official sources said.
