12 injured in bomb explosion in Patna-Hatia Express

Twelve passengers were injured when a bomb exploded in a compartment of the Patna-Hatia Express near Chandrapura railway station in Bokaro district of Jharkhand on Thursday.

Inspector General of Police (Railways) Niaz Ahmed said the bomb concealed in a bag on the upper berth of a second class compartment, the third from the engine, exploded at 4:30 pm.

While four passengers were discharged after first aid, eight others were admitted to the Chandrapura Damodar Valley Corporation hospital, where the condition of a child was stated to be critical, Ahmed said.

The bogey was later replaced and the train left for Hatia, 12 km from here. Senior police and railway officials were at the spot and had started investigations, Ahmed said.

An accident relief train had left Dhanbad for the site. The Purushottam Express and the Howrah-Hatia Shatabdi were detained at Chandrapura and Bokaro respectively after the blast.

Senior PRO D K Sharma based at Danapur said that a helpline service had been opened at Patna junction.
