AIBMAC asks Kanchi seer to dissociate himself from VHP

The All India Babri Masjid Action Committee on Tuesday asked the Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peeth Swami Jayendra Saraswati to dissociate himself from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and declare publicly that the court verdict on the Ayodhya issue would be binding on all, including the Sangh Parivar outfit.

AIBMAC convener Zafaryab Jilani said, "He (Kanchi seer) has not given any indication that in the event of failure of his efforts, the parties will have to abide by the court verdict."

Jilani, however, appreciated the Kanchi seer's stand to disagree with the VHP proposal to divide Jammu and Kashmir into four.

"The Kanchi seer should not have any presumption that the Muslims can be persuaded to surrender their claim over the mosque," he said. "No such proposal will be acceptable to Muslims, including those in Faizabad and Ayodhya."

"Besides, since the VHP and their associates do not appear to be inclined to exclude the site of the mosque from their plan to construct the temple, there appears to be no scope for any meaningful and useful negotiations and as such the proposed negotiations are nothing but an exercise in futility," Jilani said.

It would be more appropriate if 'the good offices of the seer' was used to spread the 'message of mutual respect and peaceful existence' and to avoid any confrontation on this issue, he said.

He also urged the Shankaracharya to persuade the VHP and its allies to cooperate in the speedy disposal and final adjudication of the suits on the issue.
