Kanchi seer in Delhi to find solution to Ayodhya issue

Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati arrived in Delhi on Monday on a brief visit and is expected to make efforts to pick up the threads from where he left in March in resolving the Ayodhya issue.

The Acharya, who had undertaken an unsuccessful mediation bid on the issue, is expected to use the opportunity to meet Muslim leaders from Ayodhya for holding further talks on the Ram temple issue.

The Shankaracharya had said in Chennai that the formula already initiated by him would be the basis for talks.

Earlier in March, the Shankaracharya had held talks with All India Muslim Personal Law Board leaders in a bid to resolve the Ayodhya impasse ahead of VHP's Shiladaan on March 15.

However, this was derailed as the Board had rejected his formula for a symbolic bhoomipujan near the disputed site in Ayodhya by the Ramjanambhoomi Trust on March 15 and construction of a temple there.

The Board favoured a judicial settlement of the issue. The Supreme Court had also set aside the bhoomipujan and directed status quo at the site.

The Shankaracharya, who is visiting Delhi to meet the visiting Nepal King Gyanendra, would also inaugurate the Bharat Maithri Sangham on Tuesday in the office of the Nepalese ambassador.
