Five persons belonging to an ONGC oil drilling party, including a senior scientist, were killed and four injured while a security personnel was reported missing following an ambush by suspected Dima Halam Daoga (DHD) militants at Doldoli, near Diphu, on Monday.

An ONGC assistant engineer, a senior scientist, two of the general staff and a contractor were killed on the spot, District Deputy Commissioner Bhaba Gogoi said.

The ultras fired bullets from both sides of the road when the drilling party was returning from their work site at Dhansiri, he said.

The security personnel accompanying the drilling party retaliated but casualties among the militants was not immediately known.

A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel accompanying the party was missing along with his arms, Gogoi said.

The injured have been admitted to a hospital, he said adding a massive manhunt had been launched to track down the militants.
