Time hires guards for Alex Perry

Time magazine has hired two armed guards to provide security to its India correspondent Alex Perry, who has been at the centre of a controversy following a report on the health of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The guards have been posted at Perry's residence in the capital.

A lawyer acting on behalf of the American magazine has served a notice on a newspaper in New Delhi, which had mentioned Perry's home address in a report on the controversy.

"The publication of Mr Perry's address not only intrudes upon his privacy but also jeopardises Mr Perry's security and safety and makes him vulnerable to physical harm," the notice said.
