Former vice-president B D Jatti dead

Former vice-president B D Jatti died at a hospital in Bangalore on Friday.

Jatti, 92, developed complications early in the morning, his doctor, Dr S S Ramesh said, adding that the end came at around 1240 hrs.

Jatti was put on a ventilator and external cardiac pacing machine after his heart rate slowed down and blood pressure dropped, Ramesh, who is the Chief Cardiologist at the Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital Heart Centre, said.

He did not respond to efforts to stimulate the heartbeat and became unconscious, he said.

The family members of Jatti were by his side when the end came.

Jatti, also former Karnataka chief minister, is survived by three sons and a daughter.

He held the office of the President temporarily from February 11, 1977 to July 25, 1977 after the demise of the then incumbent Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed.

He was the vice-president from 1974 to 1979.

Aravind, Jatti's son, said the funeral would take place at Basavashrama at Doddabele village in Kengeri on the city outskirts on Saturday.
