Rattled by the defection from the ranks of the NCP, nearly 50 MLAs of the Congress were on Thursday flown to Bangalore to avoid a split in the party.
It is learnt that the MLAs have been kept in a hotel and will be brought to Mumbai when the government is to prove its majority in the House on June 13.
The Democratic Front, comprising the Congress and the NCP along with some smaller parties, risks losing its majority with some of its MLAs having withdrawn support to the government.
These include MLAs from some of the smaller parties and some from the NCP.
On Thursday, Padmakar Walvi became the first Congress MLA to announce withdrawal of support to the DF government.
