The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday made it clear that it would not allow the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena combine to take advantage of the political crisis in Maharashtra.
Party general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet told a television news channel that despite differences on policy issues, his legislators would support the ruling Congress-NCP coalition in case of a trial of strength on the floor of the House.
Surjeet said the CPI-M had differences with the state government, especially on the economic front. "We made our differences known to them and decided to come out of the alliance."
"This does not mean that we want the government to fall. We do not, in any way, want the Shiv Sena-BJP to take advantage of this situation," he said.
CPI-M has two MLAs in the Maharashtra assembly.
