Bal Thackeray optimistic of
Sena-BJP coming to power

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Tuesday sounded optimistic about Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party combine's prospects of coming to power in Maharashtra in the wake of several MLAs withdrawing support to the ruling Democratic Front coalition government.

"It is [just] a question of time [now] for Sena-BJP to come to power as the existing DF government has to prove its majority in the state assembly in 10 days and it is a fight for survival for them," he said.

He said it is all about numbers now. "They [the DF government] need 145 MLAs to prove their majority. If they can't get to that number, they lose...it's simple arithmetic."

Thackeray said Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had sought 15 days to prove his majority, but the governor gave him only ten days.

"I would have preferred only seven days," he added.
