Telugu Desam Party candidate Ganti Vijayakumari has won the Lok Sabha by-election from Amalapuram (reserved) constituency by a record margin of 313,660 votes.
Vijayakumari, widow of former Lok Sabha speaker G M C Balayogi, trounced her nearest Bahujan Samaj Party rival J B Raju.
She polled 341,923 votes while the BSP candidate received 28,263 votes.
Republican Party of India candidate P Vijay Chakravarthi polled only 6,271 votes.
The by-poll was necessitated due to the death of Balayogi in a helicopter crash on March 3.
Though the voter turnout was low at 37.73 per cent, Vijayakumari won comprehensively as she was supported by all the major parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress.
The polling was held on May 31. The counting was completed within three hours and the result was announced at 1100 hrs on Sunday.
There were no invalid votes this time since electronic voting machines were used in the constituency.
