Near normal power supply restored to railways

Train movement has been restored on all important routes affected by Tuesday night's massive power failure in the western grid, though complete normalcy was expected only some time on Wednesday morning, according to a release from the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

Earlier, power had been restored at some places, including communally sensitive Ahmedabad, where emergency supply was activated at around 2300 hours IST.

Meanwhile, a report from Baroda said power supply has been restored in north, south and central Gujarat and efforts were on to resume the supply in Saurashtra and Kutch regions through the Sikka thermal power unit.
