Jamir tells NSCN-IM to keep out of state politics

Nagaland Chief Minister S C Jamir has asked the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Issac-Muivah) not to meddle in state politics at this juncture, but concentrate on the ongoing peace process to hammer out an amicable settlement of the vexed Naga problem.

Responding to the NSCN-IM allegations, circulated through a pamphlet, against him and his government, Jamir asserted neither he nor the state government made any attempt to derail the current peace process.

Rather, it played the role of a facilitator for restoring durable peace in Nagaland.

The steering committee of the NSCN-IM, the highest policy making body of the underground outfit, has alleged that the state government had come in the way of smooth progression of the peace process, saying Jamir and his government should be removed from power (in the coming election).

Assembly election in Nagaland is due early next year. No opposition parties had participated in the last poll, allowing the Congress to make a clean sweep.

"It clearly appears that the steering committee is either least interested in finding solutions to the Naga problem or is confused. The main content of the pamphlet is very clear -- remove S C Jamir and the Congress party by hook or crook. The intention is clear. They wish to involve themselves in state politics and state election," the chief minister said.
