Sukhbir dares Punjab govt to prove allegations

Rajya Sabha member and general secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhbir Badal, on Tuesday challenged the Vigilance Bureau and the state government to prove the allegations levelled against him by the arrested former minister Sucha Singh Langaha regarding allotment of road construction contracts to his brother-in-law's company.

"I will resign from politics forever, if the VB as well as the state government can prove the allegations within a week, otherwise Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh should resign for making false allegations, just to defame me for getting immediate political mileage," Sukhbir said.

He expressed doubt over the report that Langaha has confessed during interrogation that he had allotted a contract for Morinda bypass road to a company, owned by his brother-in-law, in which he is also shareholder.

He claimed that his brother-in-law does not own any construction company, but owns sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh.

He alleged that the state government was not having any economic and political agenda for the betterment of the state, except to malign the opposition party by making false allegations.

The party would observe August 9, as 'protest day' against the policies of the state government and rallies and dharnas would be organised at every district of the state, Sukhbir added.

Sukhbir charged that even after five months of its tenure, the state government has not fulfilled any promise made in the poll manifesto.

Even the MLAs and ministers have not furnished details of their properties, he added.
