Advani to make statement on domicile row in Parliament

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Tuesday night said that he would make a statement in Parliament on the domicile issue in the light of the recent agitation and violence in Jharkhand.

"We are going to place the facts before Parliament," he told PTI.

When asked if the statement would contain any policy matters, Advani said that the Centre was not involved with a state's domicile policy.

The deputy prime minister replied in the affirmative when asked if the Centre had received the report it had sought from the Jharkhand government with regard to the agitation over the domicile issue.

The state's new domicile policy, which bars employment for those who settled there after 1932, had sparked largescale violence with pro- and anti-domicile activists launching agitation in Ranchi and other places.
