Bihar's Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Ramashray Sahni on Thursday resigned from state cabinet after being sentenced to life imprisonment in a 20-year-old murder case.
The case pertains to the murder of havildar Kameshwar Choudhry of Bhangrupur village under Mufassil police station in Samastipur district in 1982.
District Judge Avinash Sharan Lal handed down the sentence to Sahni and 11 others.
While confirming Sahni's resignation, Bihar Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ramchandra Purbey informed the state assembly that Sahni had submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Rabri Devi.
Chief Minister Rabri Devi has accepted the resignation and forwarded it to the governor for acceptance, he added.
When contacted in Samastipur, Sahni told rediff.com that he would challenge the verdict in the Patna high court.
