Eminent Assamese poet Navakanta Barua passes away

Eminent Assamese poet Navakanta Barua on Sunday died of old age at a private nursing home in Guwahati.

He was 76 and is survived by his wife and daughter.

Barua, a Padma Bhushan and Sahitya Akademi award winner, has a series of anthologies and books to his credit.

Immediately after the news of his death broke out several eminent persons and his fans visited his home to pay homage.
