Andhra bandh passes off peacefully

The 48-hour Andhra Pradesh bandh called by the outlawed People's War passed off peacefully on Friday.

The outfit had called for the bandh to protest against the killing of 10 of its cadres, including top functionary Padmakka, in encounters in Khammam, Karimnagar, Warangal and Guntur districts since June 24.

The impact of the bandh was partial even in the extremist-affected districts of Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad and Adilabad. Shops and business establishments were closed only in a few interior villages in these four districts. Bus services were normal except on some remote routes.

The police had sounded a red-alert in north Telangana districts and made elaborate arrangements in the extremist-affected areas.
