6,500 workers seek transfer to Hajipur
rail zone

At a time when a spat is on between Bihar and West Bengal over the creation of the East-Central Railway Zone office at Hajipur in Bihar, about 6,500 employees have sought transfer to the new office.

Sources in Hajipur said the new office had received 6,500 applications from employees of difference grades working in various zones.

According to the president of the EC Railway Employees Union, Keshari Nandan Singh, most of the applicants were Biharis working outside Bihar.

The Hajipur office had forwarded the names of around 450 people, including 40 Class I officers, to the railway board in New Delhi for approval of transfer.

At present, 265 employees from different railway zones are working in Hajipur.

It is estimated that new zone at Hajipur, which will comprise of five divisions, namely Sonepur, Samastipur, Danapur, Mughalsarai and Dhanbad, will generate an annual revenue of more than Rs1000 crore.

"Bihar will easily earn Rs200 crore a year from the new railway zone...," Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Ramkirpal Yadav said.
