Pakistan frees 40 men held on return
from Afghanistan

Pakistan on Tuesday released around 40 people who had been arrested on their return from Afghanistan, where they had gone to fight alongside the Taliban, police said.

They were among the 570 Pakistanis held for interrogation since their release from Afghan jails last month, they said.

They had been held in Haripur Jail in northwestern Pakistan and later shifted to the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.

The remaining detainees were still being interrogated, officials said.
