Raids on Punjab revenue officials; 15 held

Fifteen officials of the revenue department were arrested during state-wide raids conducted by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Friday, a bureau spokesman said in Chandigarh on Saturday evening.

The raids were conducted following information that revenue department officials, including tehsildars, naib tehsildars and clerks were demanding money from the public for registration of property and other documents, the spokesman said.

He said corrupt practices were detected in Jalandhar Range, comprising of Jalandhar, Phillaur and Bhulath from where 12 officials were arrested following recovery of excess cash. Three officials were arrested in Patiala Range, comprising of Sunam and Nabha.

The spokesman said that during the raids no irregularities were found in four ranges of Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhatinda and Ferozepur.
