The overall flood situation in Assam on Friday continued to be grim with more than 7,000 people still affected by the Brahmaputra river in spate.
The rain-fed Brahmaputra and its tributaries also inundated low-lying areas, resulting in damage to crop, official sources said in Guwahati.
The situation was worst in Dhemaji district as Jiadhol river breached the national highway in several places disrupting road traffic. Movement of trains was also affected.
In Darrang and Sonitpur districts, movement of vehicular traffic was restricted as floodwater inundated National Highway-51.
The situation was also critical in the districts of Nalbari, Barpeta, Goalpara, Dhubri, Golaghat, Dibrugarh and Jorhat, where floodwater had inundated several villages.
Meanwhile, the Assam government has urged the Centre to allow lifting of additional food grains by the Food Corporation of India.
