Britain calls for 'significant'
reduction in infiltration

Maintaining that infiltration into Kashmir from across the Line of Control was a matter of "great concern," Britain on Wednesday urged Pakistan to control cross-border terrorism.

"Controlling infiltration across the LoC remains a matter of great concern to Britain and this is something I emphasised on the government of Pakistan," British Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon told reporters after an hour-long one-to-one meeting with Defence Minister George Fernandes in New Delhi.

Hoon arrived in Delhi from Islamabad after talks with President Pervez Musharraf and others.

Heading a high-level defence delegation on a two-day visit, Hoon made it clear that London "will not tolerate" raising of funds on its soil for promoting terrorism abroad and declared that the British government had specifically changed its laws to arm the police with powers to deal with organisations indulging in such fund-raising.
